Kiss

Kiss by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy

Shauna McCallister is the daughter of  Landon McCallister, who is a presidential candidate. Her mother died when Shauna was young, giving birth to Shauna’s younger brother Rudy. She is driving home with Rudy from yet another fight with her father when she is involved in a car crash and goes into a coma. When she wakes up from her coma, she finds that she cannot remember her past and how she came to be in the hospital. She remembers the face of her Uncle Trent (who is a good friend of her father’s rather then her blood uncle) and her step-mother Patrice, with whom she has a rocky relationship. She remembers her brother Rudy, with whom was in a car crash. But she does not remember her boyfriend Wayne Spade, who is in the room with them. After coming out of the coma, she is sent home to recuperate at her father’s guest home. There she is taken care of by the housekeeper Khai and Wayne. Khai is a kind-hearted woman. Wayne tries to help Shauna recover her lost memories. Shauna deeply wants to recover them. She is not prepared for the answers she finds.

Kiss is an awesome book. As a fan of Ted Dekker for years, I was not left disappointed. I really enjoyed the style of the book. It was still 100% Ted’s style but with a different touch. Erin Healy added a lot to the book as a coauthor. The book had more detail then a typical Dekker book, which made an awesome experience as a reader. It had a spiritual theme running throughout which I richly enjoyed. Choosing prospective over pain when remembering our pasts. Learning from our pasts, rather then dwelling on hurt. This is definitely a book I would recommend to everyone! A must read for 2009! I can’t wait for Burn, another co-authorship between Ted Dekker and Erin Healy, expected to release January 2010.

Rating: 5/5.
