House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo
The King family makes the big move from Pasadena California where they have lived for the children’s whole lives to Pinedale. Mr. King has gotten a job there as a school principle there. Fifteen year old Xander is unhappy with his familys move. He is an amature filmmaker who doesn’t think there will be much to film in Pinedale. The family soon finds an old adandoned house while househunting. It hasn’t been lived in for years, with cobwebs and dust everywhere and even dirty dishes in the sink! Xander’s parents fall in love with the place. But he has a bad feeling about the place. To him its like the Haunted Houses in horror films. He wants nothing more than to stay away from it.
I loved this book! It was deeply mysterious. Definitely a book that all ages will enjoy, though it is geared towards young adults. This book is allows you to imagine with the characters. It was a hard book to put down! Liparulo’s writing style is excellent! I will definitely be picking up more of his books in the future.
Note: When at the bookstore or your online book seller, buy both House of Dark Shadows and Watcher in the Woods (the second book in the series). I only have the first book and I definitely wish I had the second so that I could keep reading!
Rating: 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
