Using the International Children’s Bible (ICB) New Testament translation, the Word of Promise holds nothing back in assembling an all-star cast. By looking at the big child star names that’re on the billing, one would think that this was the Bible according to the Disney Channel. Cody Linley (Hannah Montana) gives the voice of Jesus; Emily Osment (Hannah Montana), voices Mary the mother of Jesus; Corbin Bleu (High School Musical franchise), voices the apostle Peter. Other Disney stars include Charlie Stewart as Luke (Suite Life of Zack and Cody), Alyson Stoner as Martha (Suite Life of Zack and Cody), Tahj Mowry (Smart Guy) as John; Andrew Lawrence (Brotherly Love) as Matthew, and Luke Benward (Mostly Ghostly) as Mark. Max Lucado and daughter Jenna give the book introductions. And Sean Astin (LOTR) narrates.
Overall, the production is very solid and well-paced. The chosen version seems to accurately portray the meaning and intent of the Scripture writers. It made for excellent background noise to listen to while home. A think this production would be excellent for any parent wanting their child to absorb the Scriptures, but can’t get them to read it. Only downside, the musical score is nearly non-existent and the emotions seem flat on occasion. Overall, 4/5.
