Word of Promise the New Testament
After listening to the Word of Promise – The Gift of Psalms I was really excited to get the New Testament set but I have to say I was a little disappointed at first. It was really neat to listen to the New Testament read and I picked up a lot of verses and passages that I’d never really noticed. But it was a little hard to listen to at first, because of the young actors who sounded so dramatic at times. Like they were little kids trying to read like they were adults. But I think that as the actors got more comfortable in reading they became more realistic and by the end of the CD’s I had really enjoyed listening to all the actors and actresses.
I loved the sound effects in the background, during Paul’s letters there were sounds of a scratching pen on paper, the jingling of his chains, and throughout the books there was always music or noises that went along with the scripture. My favourite book to listen to was Hebrews because it was read by Sean Astin(who also Narrates the rest of the books). He is still my favourite reader from both of the Word of Promise sets. Maybe just because I loved him in Lord of the Rings, but I really do enjoy listening to him read.
The CD also comes with a DVD including cast interviews and behind the scenes which definitely gave the CD’s more depth to see a little behind the scenes of how it was all put together. The cast interviews were also cool, to hear how each of them reacted to being asked to play their specific character (“What? You mean like…Paul?…like three fourths of the New Testament…the apostle Paul? Like Paul Paul?”) and finding out more about each of them personally. I laughed so much watching it. *lol*
Overall, I did enjoy the cd’s, and would definitely recommend if you have younger kids(although all ages can enjoy it!). 4 out of 5. :)
