Green by Ted Dekker
Like so many other Dekker fans I anxiously awaited Ted’s novel Green and it definitely didn’t disappoint. (: The last book written in the Circle Series (Black, Red and White), it is also the beginning. Even though Green happens after White, it also takes place before Black. The start and the finish. Ted masterfully ties up loose ends from the first three books while at the same time opening up more questions. It truly is a “circle.” In Green, Elyon hasn’t shown Himself for quite some time and the Circle Dwellers are starting to doubt. They wonder if Elyon ever was real. If He actually cares. If He really will come back someday and save them from the Horde. Samuel, Thomas’ oldest son, doesn’t believe so, and thinks that the sword is the only way to make peace with the Horde. Not loving them as his father so old-fashionedly suggests. The circle is divided. Who is right? And is this the end of Other Earth, or just the beginning?
I absolutely loved this book and loved finally having the answers to so many of my questions! Although I would not recommend it to anyone that hasn’t read the original Circle Trilogy, Black, Red, and White. I would maybe even go as far as to say read Showdown, Saint and Sinner (The Project Showdown series) also before reading this. Only because you will understand the plot and point of the book having already met and known the characters. The characters aren’t really introduced, and I would think starting with Green would be like jumping into the middle of a story without knowing much about who or what is going on. But other then that, Ted once again amazes me with his ability to write such a wonderful story that makes you “dive deep” and to make biblical truths come alive in powerful ways.
