the hole in our gospel

Posted in Book Reviews at 11:17 pm by SapphiraAdi

What does God expect of us?
The answer that changed my life and might just change the world.

Richard Stearns book The Hole in Our Gospel is one of those books that when you finish you think, “I have got to give this book to everyone I know.” Its not just a book with a whole bunch of statistics about the poor in Africa or how many children die every day from AIDS, but its a book with heart breaking stories about real people, in real countries, with real lives that are hurting and need help. Stearns spends the first couple chapters of the book talking about his decision to become the President of World Vision U.S. and his story is so powerful. From being the CEO of a successful company to giving it all up and becoming the President of World Vision and just the incredible power of God who works in our lives and directs our paths.

In the rest of the book Stearns discusses the “holes” that are in our Gospel and how we can “repair the holes.” He goes through stories of Christians in Africa who are actually showing Christ’s love to those around them, not just talking about it. Churches that are reaching out to the poor and helping them, not just saying “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed.” This is a wonderful book that will open your eyes on a lot of topics and will make your “heart break for the things that break the heart of God.”

crossing

God is leading, His people must follow.

Mark MooreExodus 13:17-22

This day was funny because Mark was supposed to speaking on the crossing and how the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, but accidentally preached his message for the next day, which was on worship. And part way through him talking, I actually looked at the CIY book and thought, “This seems like it goes more with the Worship theme tomorrow but whatever.” So I go to the Next Level college session after that morning session and he asks if anyone realized he had preached the wrong message. *lol* It was so funny! But it all worked out in the end. He preached the one on the Crossing that night and the next morning he preached an expanded message on worship and it was really really good and a lot of people said it was stuff they needed to hear, but it wouldn’t have gotten said if he hadn’t messed up. :) I don’t really have a lot of thoughts on today’s message, it wasn’t something that really spoke to me, the worship message was really good though, and I’ll talk more about that in the next post. :)

We all have our own Pi Hahiroth to cross.

We all have a decision to make.

Will we trust God and go into the unknown?

Are you going to go back to slavery in Egypt or forward to freedom in the desert?

We need to move.

God will always make a way.

Who do you fear most? What’s behind you, or the living God?

God is leading us, not always where we think He should, but it is our job to follow.
