Xander King doesn’t want to move when his dad takes a job as a school teacher in Pinedale, a little town in the middle of nowhere. In fact, he complains and struggles with changing schools, leaving friends, and seemingly leaving behind his dreams of making movies. But that all changes when they find this house where nothing is as it seems. *cue scary music* Closets that transport you to school lockers, hallways with mysterious doors that lead to different times and places, noises that come from all the wrong places, footprints in the dust, and a mysterious clearing in the woods. After finding the portal in the linen closet, Xander and his younger brother David set out to explore the rest of the house and the woods surrounding it. But what they find could be more then they can handle. They are drawn to the strange doors that lead places, even after having some close calls with what lies within. Can they find out the mystery behind the house? Or will it be too late?
I absolutely loved the book. :D It drew me in and made me feel like I was in the house. I had to keep looking up to make sure no one was in my room, and its definitely not a book I want to read while I’m home alone. I laughed a lot at Xanders references to different movies and books, and how even when he’s freaking out he can remember what movie/book his predicament reminds him of. I wish Mr. Liparulo had written more about the clearing, it was only mentioned a bit, but maybe thats for the next book. All in all, I thought it was a great book and have already placed my order at the library for the second one and then will have to wait impatiently for January to come to read the third one. And to add another reason to read it.. Ted Dekker gave it a great review, which says more then my little review ever could. ;) If you want to check it out you can go here. —-> House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo

So I was reading my bible a little bit ago and I came across this verse and went ” Thats the song! Its the song!” :D
Psalm 62:11-12a
“One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,
and that you, O Lord, are loving…”
I love finding verses that are from songs. The song is Your Love is Strong by Jon Foreman, the lead singer for Switchfoot. I knew that most of the song was scripture and I absolutely love the song, but finding that verse made me so happy, I had to write a post about it. :D Links are the the bible verses, I’m sure there are more scriptures but these are the ones I thought of off the top of my head. :) The song is also on my music player if you’d like to listen to it.
“Heavenly Father
You always amaze me
Let your kingdom come
In my world and in my life
You give me the food I need
To live through the day
And forgive me as I forgive
The people that wronged me
Lead me far from temptation
Deliver me from the evil one
I look out the window
The birds are composing
Not a note is out of tune
Or out of place
I walked to the meadow
And stare at the flowers
Better dressed than any girl
On her wedding day
So why do I worry?
Why do I freak out?
God knows what I need
You know what I need
Chorus:
Your love is
Your love is
Your love is strong
The kingdom of the heavens
Is now advancing
Invade my heart
Invade this broken town
The kingdom of the heavens
Is buried treasure
Will you sell yourself
To buy the one you’ve found?
Two things you told me
That you are strong
And you love me
Yes, you love me
Our God in heaven
Hallowed be
Thy name above all names
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us wicked sinners
Lead us far away from our vices
And deliver us from these prisons“

I found these quotes written in my notebook and I thought I’d share them. They’re from two of my favourite books. Blessed Child and A Man Called Blessed by Ted Dekker and Bill Bright. Enjoy!
“Do you know why David danced around the Ark? Because he was in the presence of God. And in the presence of God you sometimes become like a child. We are keepers of the secret of the Ark, Caleb, and we like to dance.” -Father Hadane
Hadane, “Come on, Caleb! Dance, dance, dance! Become like a child with me. We are in the presence of God! We are in the presence of the Ark! Become like David!”
None of this was new – it was simply new to his grown mind. What he had once taken for granted as a child now sounded profound. – Caleb
“…now I know why Christ said that unless you become – not are, not want to be, but become – like a child you cannot enter the kingdom! I am becoming again!” – Caleb
Open your eyes, Son. The eyes of your heart. You will find that it is very light in there. It’s always light in the kingdom of God. – Dadda
I used to swim deep in this ocean of love as well, but became accustomed to the dry land and now I have this crazy notion that breathing underwater is impossible. – Caleb
Waste your life for this treasure – this extravagant love for Christ. Swim in His ocean and breathe His water…Run like the wind through His kingdom. – Hadane
Remember, Caleb, words are weak instruments of love. They can do many things, but they do not carry the truth like your hands do. People need to be shown, not told. – Dadda
It feels like I’m stepping off a cliff here. One foot is over and the other is still anchored and I’m trying to decide whether or not to jump. What do you think, should I jump? – Caleb
They didn’t mix; they just swirled around each other. “Your heart is like this vase, Caleb. It can only hold so much. You will have to decide what goes in it – the oil of the Spirit or the darkness of evil. But make no mistake; one will displace the other. They do not mix.” – Dadda
You are fighting the fight that all my children fight. Here me, Caleb. You are my light. You are my smile. You make butterflies fly through my belly. Do you know why, Caleb? Because I love you more than words can say. - God
Dadda had once told him that those close to God can hear his still small voice, like a son can hear and understand a father’s whisper. God always answers, and He never answers with silence. He is eager for us to hear. – Caleb
:an impossible sense of peace – almost as if it were a material substance she’d walked into – settling around her mind. Or perhaps she had indeed stepped off a cliff, and instead of falling, she was floating on this cloud of simple assurance. – Rebecca
Because there was a time when I could walk in his presence as if it was another world, right here around us. And it is! There’s another world right here, waiting to be opened. An ocean tempting us to dive in. The kingdom of God is here! – Caleb
